Layering Guide

The base layer is your foundation in layering and is worn next to the skin. With two core performance functions, an effective base will regulate your body temperature while managing perspiration by wicking moisture away from the skin. A base layer can be utilised year round, with different styles, features and fabric weights each suited for a specific climate.

The outer layer // insulation is designed to protect against extreme cold conditions, including rain, snow, and wind. It is specifically crafted to retain body heat in such harsh environments. This layer can be worn as the outermost layer or as an additional insulating layer underneath a protective shell. It is most effective when stationary so you’ll stay warm while glassing or back at camp.

Waterproof hard shells are the outer layer armour against extreme weather, providing maximum protection from heavy rain and strong wind. You should select your outer shell jacket based on factors such as terrain, hunting style and predicted weather conditions. As your outermost layer, the hard shell jackets are that final step to stop the cold weather creeping in.

The correct footwear is vital for winter hunting to maintain safety and warmth. The correct combination of socks and boots will provide insulation to keep feet warm and prevent frostbite and hypothermia. Waterproof boots are essential to keep feet dry while navigating through snow and wet terrain. Specialised outsoles offer superior traction on slippery surfaces, reducing the risk of falls. Winter hunting can be very demanding on footwear so remember to clean and maintain your boots to extend their life.
